Lightning & Thunderstorms

When thunder is heard or lightning is observed nearby, activity should stop and participants should move to an appropriate substantial building or enclosed vehicle. Resume only after the applicable facility, league or recognized weather-safety standard allows it.

Heat & Hydration

Coaches should account for temperature, humidity, sun exposure, age, acclimatization and workload. Provide regular hydration and rest opportunities, reduce intensity when conditions warrant, and stop activity for signs of heat illness.

Air Quality

Outdoor activity should be modified, relocated or canceled when official air-quality guidance indicates that conditions create elevated risk, especially for children or participants with respiratory conditions.

Cold & Severe Weather

Wind chill, wet clothing, snow, ice and poor field conditions can create injury risk. Sessions should be modified or canceled when footing, exposure or travel conditions are unsafe.

Authority to Stop Activity

Coaches and designated club staff have authority to stop or cancel activity for safety. Players and parents should not be penalized for leaving or declining participation because of a reasonable immediate safety concern.
